Awahnee Brunch Ride

May 20, 2001

Lisa Brazieal

Please join me, LISA B. for the Awahnee Brunch ride this Sunday, May 20th.  Brunch reservations are at 1200, so leave home with a full stomach. There will be no breakfast stop. I'll need to call ahead to give the restaurant a final head count, so please RSVP by Friday.  415.377.0134

Leave home with a full tank of gas. The first gas stop is 135 miles from S.F.  The second gas stop is at 115 miles from the first. From that gas stop back to SF is 160 miles. Ride the appropriate hardware with the appropriate range.

SF/Berkeley/Oakland contingent gather at the Shell station on Park Blvd. off 580 in Oakland.  Meet there at 630.  We'll leave at 640.

All others, gather at the 76 station off Vasco Road.  Meet there at 715ish.  We'll leave at 730ish.

WHAT THE MORNING HOLDS...

From the Vasco Rd. 76 station, turn right on Vasco to dead end at Tesla Rd. (J2)
Left on Tesla Rd. to 580 (Tesla turns into Corral Hollow Road. This won't matter 'til later).
Right on 580 two miles to 132 towards Modesto
Follow 132 approx. 65 miles to Exxon station past La Grange. STOP FOR GAS.
(FYI on my preride this Sunday there was a 3-mile stretch of road construction and dirt outside of La Grange.)
Continue on 132 to Coulterville.
Turn left on 49 then immediately right at store. Follow Greely Hill Rd.
(J132) as it turns into Smith Station Rd. (still 132) to Hwy. 120.
Right on 120 into Yosemite Valley

***see note below about Park entrance fees

Follow signs for "All Valley Destinations" and the red letter "A" to the Awahnee hotel.

Brunch is $25 incl. tax and tip.

Afterwards we adjourn across the patio to the grassy valley floor to bask, stretch and revel in our good fortunate, good company, and quality of life.

*** IMPORTANT!

There is a $10 entrance fee to Yosemite for motorcycles! It is FREE if you have a national parks pass ($50 a year), which includes spouse. The Ntl. Parks Pass admits the pass signee and any accompanying passengers in a private vehicle if a park has a per vehicle entrance fee. Where a per person entrance fee is charged, the National Parks Pass admits the pass signee, spouse, children and parents. I am borrowing Earl's pass, so I can bring in one male rider. Borrow a pass if you know someone who has one. (THANKS EARL!) ***

WHAT THE AFTERNOON HOLDS...

Exit the Valley. Follow signs to 140
Follow 140 to Mariposa. Gas at station at Hwy. 49
Take Hwy. 49 North approx. 10 miles to Bear Valley
Turn left on J16 (we take J16 back to I-5)

At Snelling, approx. 35 miles past Bear Valley, J16 jogs right. This is marked but easy to miss. Beware of sand in the next 10-15 miles, especially in the 90-degree turns posted at 15mph.

Past Snelling J16 is no longer marked J16, though it still is. It is now posted as Keyes Rd.
Left on Grayson Rd. (Still J16, still not marked) to I-5
North on I-5 towards SF (turns into 580)
Continue approx. 15 miles North to Corral Hollow (Do you remember?)
Follow Corral Hollow Rd. (turns into Tesla Rd.) to South Vasco Rd.
Right on S. Vasco Rd. to 580
Follow 580 West to home
Approx. 410 miles round-trip from S.F.
