Directions to Clear Creek camping site via Hollister (scenic route);

  1. Take Hwy-101 south from San Jose ~32 miles.
  2. Take Hwy-25 thru Hollister (~12 miles) continue south.
  3. Note the Pinnacles Rd. turn off on the right (after ~30 miles) , & continue 12 miles further on Hwy-25.
  4. Turn LEFT on Coalinga Rd. & go 16 miles.
  5. Turn LEFT on Clear Creek Rd., cross the concrete bridge, & continue ~2.4 miles...
  6. Past the Oak Flat campground on the left & continue...
  7. Turn LEFT on Road "R002" & we'll be camped back in the trees at this flat area (Jade Mill).
    (Or if too crowded here, will leave a sign at this turn stating where we are.)

Directions to Clear Creek camping site via King City (pulling-a-trailer route);

  1. Take Hwy-101 south from San Jose ~100 miles.
  2. Take the first King City exit (Broadway St.)
  3. Follow Broadway North thru town.
  4. Turn LEFT at the tee (1st St.).
  5. Follow 1st St. as it curves right & becomes Bitterwater Rd. (G13).
  6. Follow Bitterwater Rd. 13-14 miles where it ends at Hwy-25.
  7. Turn LEFT on Hwy-25 & go 2 miles to ...
  8. Turn RIGHT on Coalinga Rd. & go 16 miles.
  9. Turn LEFT on Clear Creek Rd., cross the concrete bridge, & continue ~2.4 miles...
  10. Past the Oak Flat campground on the left & continue...
  11. Turn LEFT on Road "R002" & we'll be camped back in the trees at this flat area (Jade Mill).
    (Or if too crowded here, will leave a sign at this turn stating where we are.)

Camping Information : This is primitive camping.  There are NO water or restroom facilities where we camp.  Pit toilets are within long-walking or riding range up to the 1st staging area or back to Oak Flat campground.  You need to bring EVERYTHING with you that you require, and take it with you when you leave.  Here's the list of things you should bring;

  • Shelter - good 3-4 season tent with proper guying & earplugs, auto/truck/van, trailer, or motel room in King City.
  • Drinking water & hydration system for the trail (100-oz size recommended for long day loops).
  • All food for meals & snacks/meals on the trail.
  • Cooking stuff.
  • Toilet stuff.
  • Clothing for 90-degree days, 20-degree nights, & everything in between.
  • Quality Libations.
  • Firewood, LOTS of firewood.
  • Large garbage bags to collect & haul your stuff away.
  • Dirtbike, riding gear, fuel, spare parts, & stuff.
  • More firewood.
